About Phoenix SES

The organisational structure

Phoenix Supported Employment Service Limited (SES) was formed as a Company Limited by Guarantee in July 2001. As such it is a non-profit organisation where members are guarantors and not shareholders and there is no share capital. This is an alternative kind of incorporation commonly used by charities.

The organisation is based in Salford, Greater Manchester and works with clients throughout the city. It is managed by a voluntary Board of Directors and employs support workers and other officers as members of staff.

Unique aspects of our service provision

Phoenix SES is unique in two respects. Firstly, it is the only supported employment service within the City of Salford to cover a comprehensively wide and inclusive spectrum of disabilities rather than focusing exclusively on one disability group. Secondly, rather than being an advisory and advocacy organisation Phoenix SES provides individually tailored and person centred support to clients throughout the entire process of assisting them into work. Along the way we profile the clients' preferences, find work placements that are suitable, find solutions to any traveling difficulties and provide support at whatever level is required to both the client and the employer. Because the service is intensive and person focused it requires funding for every client.

The organisation is committed to enhancing the quality of life of people with disabilities by enabling them to lead ordinary and independent lives in the community. Access to the labour market is fundamental to achieving this aim.

Our role at Phoenix SES is to build contacts both with schools and colleges and with potential employers and build the pathway between them for students with disabilities. Based on this, when a school or college puts forward an individual who would benefit from or service we work in cooperation with the institution to obtain the necessary funding. After that we put in place our workpaths procedure and then look for a suitable employer.

During the job trial period we continue to provide full and comprehensive support to the client and employer whenever required and make frequent audits on the client's progress.
